Bakeries and the Kamo River
Did you know that Kyoto isn’t just famous for its traditional Japanese fare? You may be surprised to find a large number of delicious bakeries in Kyoto, and each has its own mouth-watering selection waiting inside. Offering everything from French-style croissants to bread with a Kyoto twist like a matcha azuki bean bun, you’ll enjoy spending a late morning at the local bakery. Many bakeries run morning specials, so you can find good deals offering two pieces of bread and a coffee for under 500 yen. If the weather is nice, take your bread down to the Kamogawa, a scenic river that runs straight through the city. The Kamogawa is especially beautiful in the northern part of Kyoto, and makes for the perfect spot to relax.
Manga Museum
One of the things Japan is famous for is comics, otherwise known in Japan as manga. Manga has garnered popularity all around the world, and many people visit Japan precisely to experience its manga culture. With a long history in Japan, manga is enjoyed by both young and old, which is why the Manga Museum in Kyoto is designed for people of all ages. The building used to be an elementary school, lending the museum a nostalgic feeling thanks to its aged wooden floors and layout. At the Manga Museum you can learn the history of these comics, enjoy reading manga from their vast collection in comfy seats amongst the stacks or out on the sunny lawn, watch artists at work, or even attempt to draw your own manga, making this library-esque museum the prime place to spend a comfy afternoon.
