Gion Odori｜祇園をどり

The geiko and maiko of Kyoto, keepers of time-honored traditional dance and music, are concentrated in five kagai (geisha districts) across the city.  Each of the districts performs a large-scale dance for the public once a year, but most of them occur in the spring cherry blossom season.  If you're coming to Kyoto in the fall, though, never fear!  Gion Higashi district's Gion Odori runs from November 1^st to November 10^th, just in time to catch the leaves beginning to turn here in the old capital.  Two performances are held each day at 13:30 and 16:00, and tickets cost 6,000 yen or 7,000 yen (with tea ceremony). For an additional 1,000 yen you can get a program booklet with colorful photos.
