Gion Odori祇園をどり

Summary

The geiko and maiko of Kyoto, keepers of time-honored traditional dance and music, are concentrated in five kagai (geisha districts) across the city.  Each of the districts performs a large-scale dance for the public once a year, but most of them occur in the spring cherry blossom season.  If you're coming to Kyoto in the fall, though, never fear!  Gion Higashi district's Gion Odori runs from November 1st to November 10th, just in time to catch the leaves beginning to turn here in the old capital.  Two performances are held each day at 13:30 and 16:00, and tickets cost 6,000 yen or 7,000 yen (with tea ceremony). For an additional 1,000 yen you can get a program booklet with colorful photos.
