Spring Dances by Geiko & Maiko芸妓・舞妓春の踊り

Summary

The geiko of Kyoto, keepers of time honored traditional dance and music, are concentrated in five kagai (geisha districts) across the city.  Each of the districts performs a large-scale dance for the public once a year, with four of them held in the spring season.  Every kagai has its own characteristics, and each varies in the number of performers as well as the dance repertoire, the number of performances, and the ticket price, so there is sure to be a dance that attracts your interest.  Those interested can pay slightly more with their ticket to participate in a tea ceremony before the dance hosted by a maiko apprentice.  Tickets can be purchased on the day at the theater ticket offices if not sold out, or can be reserved in advance at the Tourist Information Center in Kyoto Station.
