If you’d like to experience nature as it can be found in Kyoto’s mountains, we recommend you try the Hozugawa Kudari river cruise. Traditional river boats depart from Kameoka and run down to Arashiyama, and along the way the boat guides will also entertain you with local stories and boating songs in Japanese.

Though the cruise is mostly calm waters, there is an occasional exciting bout of rapids. You can also buy food closer to Arashiyama from vendors on boats themselves. The journey takes approximately 2 hours, finishing in Arashiyama near the legendary Togetsukyō Bridge.

Fare
